Christopher Linfoot is IT Director at the Birmingham based commercial vehicle manufacturer LDV and leads business process improvement and green IT programmes.

LDV will introduce the world's first fully electric light commercial vehicle from a volume manufacturer later this year. The electric MAXUS will offer businesses and local authorities the opportunity to source British built, zero emission light commercial vehicles and thus help to minimise their carbon footprints.

LDV will further demonstrate its strong green credentials by accelerating its existing programme of manufacturing and business process improvements with the aim of reducing its own carbon footprint. These activities include the deployment of green IT.

Vehicle manufacturing is traditionally an energy intensive business and LDV's approach to energy reduction must therefore be an holistic one, looking not simply at the direct energy and carbon impact of IT services but also at new ways of working, facilitated by IT, which will reduce the need for energy consumption elsewhere.
