Doug Legge MSc CEng IEng CITP MBCS MIET MIEEE, is the Group IT Operations Manager for The Berkeley Group Holdings Company plc (http://www.berkeleygroup.co.uk) a FT250 company which entered the current financial year (2008) in a very strong position with forward sales of £1.2 billion. To date he has been responsible for projects which included:

  • design and deployment of the Groups corporate IP network, which in 2007 won the British Computer Society medal in the category “Organisation Excellence” for a “Data-centre Design”
  • analysis, design and deployment of the ASP data-centre infrastructure, key to the delivery of the Groups core business systems, including: the Cisco AVVID based VoIP system; sales & after-sales applications; secure email gateway system; core financial & reporting systems
  • review of the Groups licensing policies and implementation of a Microsoft “Enterprise Agreement”
  • technical design of the corporate security policy in line with, initially BS7799 (ISO17799), now updated to reflect ISO/IEC 27001:2005
  • design of suitable policies & procedures to support the business and ensure the Group achieve the highest standards at all times
Current projects include:
  • design and deployment of a group-wide Active Directory and Core Business Systems virtualisation Infrastructure including consolidation of the data-centre footprint, providing power reductions of over 1 million kWh
  • “Client Access Strategy” programme that will deliver the data-centre based applications via Citrix
  • “Application Performance Monitoring & Systems Management” systems programme that includes the review, selection, design and installation of a suitable Group wide management portal
  • “From Disaster Recovery to Business Continuity” impact review
Following the “learning for Life” philosophy adopted during his time in the services, Doug is progressing a research programme with the Intelligent Media Systems and Services (IMSS) research centre, University of Reading (http://www.imss.reading.ac.uk)
